Reactivity to conspicuousness and alcohol use among college students: The moderating effect of alcohol expectancies

Article Abstract:

An analysis of self-report data from 147 college undergraduates suggested that alcohol expectancies moderate the effect of a dispositional susceptibility to embarrassment elicited by undesired conspicuousness. Students who believed in the assertiveness-enhancing properties of alcohol, but tended to experience embarrassment in situations where they were the focus of others' attention, had the lowest composite drinking scores.

Dispositional motivations and genetic risk feedback

Article Abstract:

Interest in genetic testing for lung cancer susceptibility among college students, a group whose smoking rates have increased significantly in the last decade is examined. Results indicate that genetic biomarker feedback is a motivator for college student smokers to quit and would be more effective among smokers high in reward sensitivity.
