Anxiety sensitivity and other emotionality traits in predicting headache medication use in patients with reoccurring headaches: implications for abuse and dependency

Article Abstract:

A study of patients with reoccurring headache and anxiety sensitivity shows that anxiety sensitivity does not contribute to pain medication abuse, either prescription or nonprescription. In fact, anxiety sensitivity heightened the fear of the consequences of overuse. Opiate pain relievers were not included in this study and they might show different results.

Introduction to the special issue on "Anxiety Sensitivity and Addictive Behaviors."(Special Issue: Anxiety Sensitivity and Addictive Behaviors)

Article Abstract:

Past research into the relation between anxiety sensitivity and substance abuse is examined.
