Asian immigrants in American culture

Article Abstract:

Bishop Francis DiLorenzo calls on bishops of the Catholic Church in Asia to help Catholic communities in America in ministering to Asian immigrants, especially those who come to Hawaii. As host to these immigrants, Catholic Christian communities must assist them in terms of social services, health care, religious education and spiritual formation. He urges Asian bishops to help host churches understand the cultures of Asian immigrants in relation to their religious devotions. He also asks them to continue sending priests and lay people who can help in welcoming Asians to Catholic communities.

Women's roles and family formation in Venezuela: New forms of consensual unions?

Article Abstract:

Delays in union formation and changes in women's education and labor force participation have produced a more modern type of consensual union in Venezuala, according to an assessment of factors influencing nuptiality patterns. The modern type of consensual union, coexists with traditional consensual unions which remain a substitute for formal marriage amongst women from rural backgrounds, with low education levels and increased rates of work experience.
