Authoritarianism and pathological hatred: A social psychological profile of the Middle Eastern terrorist

Article Abstract:

Middle Eastern terrorists share common social-psychological tendencies, regardless of their ethnicity, religiosity, political affiliations, or gender. By organizing these tendencies under the labels of 'authoritarianism' and 'pathological hatred', it is suggested that contemporary terrorists are significantly different from their respective ethnic groups and their predecessors.

Lipset and "working -class" authoritarianism

Article Abstract:

Lipset's thesis of working-class authoritarianism is analyzed and discussed and the distinction between economic liberalism and authoritarianism is emphasized. The research findings were examined to explain how researchers have interpreted the findings of working-class authoritarianism in different ways.

Political extremism-left, center, and right

Lipset's theory of political extremism is formalized and its axioms and derivations to guide empirical research are applied. Latent structure analysis of measures of the issues of the 1992 U.S. electorate that produced a three-class Left-Center-Right classification of voters is explained.
