Awareness and denial in the Alzheimer's disease victim

Article Abstract:

A study on the validity of a psychosocial approach with Alzheimer's Disease victims was made by conducting a thorough interview with five caregivers selected from the Alzheimer's Disease Association. Personalities of the victims before their affliction were considered as well as the quality of relationship they had enjoyed with their spouses who now played the role of caregiver. Only one of the five victims vehemently denied his condition, and two were aware of their situation. The victims social and psychological condition may play a vital role in effectively dealing with dementia.

The interface of burden and level of task performance in caregivers of Alzheimer's Disease patients: an examination of clinical profiles

Article Abstract:

A study was made on the stress and degree of functioning of caregivers of Alzheimer's Disease victims. The state and background of the caregivers were taken into consideration and used as basis for their division into four subgroups, the intolerant subgroup, the paradoxical subgroup, the ideal subgroup and the clinically challenging subgroup. Each subgroup has distinct characteristics and diverse areas in need of attention. Knowledge of the differences among the groups will help determine the appropriate type of medical assistance to be given.
