Beliefs influence information processing strategies: declarative and experiential information in risk assessment

Article Abstract:

Individuals' processing strategy can be influenced by the differences in their beliefs regarding the topic at hand. Such condition results in differential dependence on accessible content against subjective accessibility experiences. Individuals are more likely to utilize systematic processing under conditions of high personal relevance. On the other hand, heuristic processing are more likely to be utilized by individuals who are in situations where low personal relevance exists.
