Between National Socialism and real socialism: political sociology in the Federal Republic of Germany

Article Abstract:

Considerations of socialism and National Socialism in Germany from a political sociological perspective should focus on pivotal periods in German history. The years 1945, 1968, and 1989 can represent times of major political change in Germany and scholars would do well to analyze these periods and related political and social problems following World War II. Scholars should follow the examples of great political sociologists such as Max Weber or Stein Rokkan and employ a combination of empirical research and theory.

Making sociology more inclusive

Article Abstract:

Sociologists can discover ways of improving their discipline's relevance by learning what not to do from its past. The American Sociological Assn has historically focused on self-examination, largely from the human male point of view. By looking outward instead and including non-sexist and environmental perspectives, sociologists can develop an approach that accounts for all influential factors.
