Blocking a selective association in pigeons

Article Abstract:

The interaction of stimulus and reinforcement were studied in pigeons trained under free-operant multiple schedules of reinforcement. The effect of visual stimulus control was compared to auditory control in the presence of tone-light combined with shock. The manifested selective association was not exhibited by pigeons that underwent pretraining with the compound stimuli minus biological contingency before tone-light training. Pretraining performed prior to compound-stimulus training resulted in auditorily controlled pigeons.

Memory processes in delayed spatial discrimination: response intentions or response mediation?

Article Abstract:

Memory processes research was conducted to determine whether pigeons anticipate future. Results show that birds with long retention interval have better memory performances than those with intervened retention interval. Results also reveal that coding processes can be influenced by the location of the retention interval. Response mediation can also be affected by retention performances when determination of the reinforced choice is done before the interval.

Stability of pigeon body weight under free-feeding conditions

Article Abstract:

The pigeons obtained from a commercial supplier were tested to find the stability of pigeon body weight under free-feeding conditions. But the results found no significant changes in weights occurred over the 30-day period for male pigeons, indicating that seven days was sufficient for establishing a baseline body weight.
