CDCs: contributions outweigh contradictions, a reply to Randy Stoecker

Article Abstract:

Community development corporations (CDC) have purportedly failed to meet the goals they set to alleviate urban poverty. They have allegedly internalized the contradiction between capital and community. A new model of redevelopment has thus been proposed. Policy makers are advised not to be taken by such negative views. They should realize that CDCs have done reasonably well considering the political and economic hurdles they face.

Nonprofit housing organizations and institutional support: the management challenge

Article Abstract:

Successful low income housing programs are often based on how well nonprofit organizations are able to maintain and manage the program. Thus, housing sponsors and their institutional support systems must be well-versed with the fundamentals and value of property and asset management. This approach requires financial and technical support from both local and national governments.

Bank lending to minority and low-income households and neighborhoods: do community reinvestment agreements make a difference?

Article Abstract:

Banks with community reinvestment agreements loan money to low-income and minority households and neighborhoods more readily than institutions that do not have such agreements. Different types of agreements have little or no impact on an institution's responsiveness to community credit needs or its lending practices, whether the agreements are negotiated or voluntary.
