Changing intergenerational solidarities within families in a Mediterranean welfare state: Elderly care in Italy

Article Abstract:

A lack of supply of formal services and the decline of informal services in Italy have popularized a widespread care market that facilitates ongoing social changes and their implications with regard to intergenerational solidarity and gender relations. A redefinition of women in the families from caretakers to managers involves the role of female low-paid workers who perform duties previously embedded in the informal care relationship.
