Characteristics of reluctant respondents in the National Medical Expenditure Survey

Article Abstract:

A large portion of resources in national household health care surveys are deployed in getting the participation of households which form part of the last five to 10% of the survey response rate. Initial refusal has been the substantial response of these households. The factors that distinguished households which needed special efforts in getting them to participate in the National Medical Expenditure Survey are analyzed.

The Human Development Index in 1994: impact of income on country rank

Article Abstract:

The annual Human Development Report of the UN Development Program (UNDP) computes a Human Development Index (HDI) for each country. The HDI is derived from measures of life expectancy, education and per-capita income. It is shown that the method of computing per-capita contribution to human development used by UNDP is inadequate and has resulted in erroneous country HDI rankings.
