Child abuse reporting: clergy perceptions

Article Abstract:

A survey conducted among members of the clergy on their perceptions on child abuse showed that a significant number, 29% of 143 respondents, did not undergo any training on the matter. Furthermore, 22% believe that evidence and not mere suspicion of abuse should be the basis for reporting about incidents of child abuse. Furthermore, it appeared that many clergypersons did not altogether trust children's service bureaus, which is one factor explaining their reluctance to readily report child abuse cases.

Medical observations on child abuse

Article Abstract:

Pediatricians and pediatric surgeons in Poland help in the early detection and treatment of child abuse. A diagnosis of child abuse is always reported to Social Welfare and the district prosecutor. Experiences at the Bielany Hospital in Warsaw show that child abuse can be detected when the parents' statements regarding the child's injuries do not coincide with the medical findings. Physicians should also be careful not to abuse the children while treating them.
