Securing our borders

Article Abstract:

Immigration officials are aware of the fact that efforts to prevent the entry of illegal immigrants at the US-Mexico border are only short-term solutions. For example, Operation Hold the Line reports that it reduced the influx of illegal immigrants, yet its work is undermined by the way immigrants have sought to enter at other points. These officials are also aware that the motivation for crossing the border is poverty in the immigrants' own country and the availability of low-wage temporary labor in the US.

Initial steps towards this goal include promoting the positive aspects of migration and setting up the necessary institutions that would regulate migration processes.
