Childhood hyperactivity, gender, and Cloninger's personality dimensions in alcoholics

Article Abstract:

The relationship between the various personality dimensions used by C.R. Cloninger to subtype alcoholics and childhood hyperactivity was investigated. The dimensions are novelty seeking (NS), harm avoidance (HA) and reward dependence (RD). Findings showed that alcoholics with childhood hyperactivity, regardless of gender, had greater NS than those without childhood hyperactivity. Female alcoholics had substantially higher RD in contrast to males.

Motivation for change in alcohol dependent outpatients from Brazil

Article Abstract:

The study investigates the reliability and factor structure of the stages of change readiness and treatment eagerness scale (SOCRATES) in 326 outpatients with alcohol dependence. Its confirmatory factor analysis showed that two correlated factors namely a combination of ambivalence and recognition (AMREC), and taking steps, provided the best fit for the data.
