Citizen attitudes about service delivery modes

Article Abstract:

A survey of citizens from Southeastern Michigan shows that they often do not know how municipal services are delivered. Service delivery arrangements do not appear to affect citizens' satisfaction. Most residents do not want changes in how services are delivered, but wish to see them delivered in the same way that they think they are delivered. The development of alternative service arrangements could be hampered by this opposition to change among residents.

Reformulating urban regime theory: the division of labor between state and market reconsidered

Article Abstract:

The quest of local governments for development and democracy can be evaluated using urban regime theory. These include community-based, petty bourgeois and local-statist regime theories, which expand municipal research beyond simple state-and-market hypotheses. They address a variety of issues, such as third-sector enterprises, middle-class resource possession and city autonomy.

Regime analysis and the study of urban politics, a rejoinder

Article Abstract:

Urban regime theories based on state and market interaction are useful in conducting local government research. One particularly useful theory is the division of labor between business and governmental sectors. This model can demonstrate the influence of business on shaping local politics, and the availability of relevant resources.
