Commentary: Munchausen syndrome by proxy - is expansion justified?

Article Abstract:

Herbert A. Schreier, in 'Repeated Allegations of Sexual Abuse Presenting to Sheriffs: When is it Munchausen by Proxy?' proposes that the term be widened to include situations involving community authority figures. However, such expansion of the definition of the term would shift the focus from the child's welfare to the adult's psychological aberration. As a medical concept in pediatrics, its focus on the child has prevented further injury inflicted by abusive caregivers. It should stay that way.

Shaken Baby Syndrome: report on four pairs of twins

Article Abstract:

Four cases of twins that suffered from Shaken Baby Syndrome are analyzed. It is hypothesized that Shaken Baby Syndrome is more prevalent in twins due to the increased emotional stress caused by twins compared to a single baby. It is also proposed that prematurity is a considerable risk factor due to the interrupted motherhood-child interactions resulting from the separation after birth and extended hospital stay of infants.
