Communication, learning, and retrieval in transactive memory systems

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to investigate the effect of communication on both learning and recall/retrieval in transactive memory systems within groups. Results allow the authors to offer an interpretation of why groups that collaborate at the time of recall remember less than nominal groups. Further, the study supports the notion that as researchers obtain a better grasp of small group communication processes, they obtain a fuller understanding of groups as information processors.
