Comparing the effects of judicial versus child protective service relationships on parental attitudes in the juvenile dependency process

Article Abstract:

Parents were interviewed in the child dependency process to judge their perception of the juvenile court process in family drug courts (FDCs) versus traditional child protective service (CPS) relationships. Substance abusing parents in the child dependency process perceived judges in therapeutic courts as being more fair and trustworthy than CPS workers, which could have important implications for social work practice and research.

Assessment of the relationship between parenting stress and a child's ability to functionally communicate

Article Abstract:

The relationship between parenting stress and a child's ability to functionally communicate within families who participated in an early intervention developmental disability program was examined. The findings suggested that a child's ability to functionally communicate does negatively relate to the level of parenting stress in the parent-child subsystem.
