Cross-cultural practice: social worker ingenuity in the indigenization of practice knowledge

Article Abstract:

Social workers in developing countries who were trained in Western theories find difficulty in applying their knowledge because the Western practices do not take into account indigenous elements of developing nations' cultures. However, through the process of indigenization, social work with a Western framework is adapted and transplanted into different environments by making modifications. The modification of foreign models of social work highlights the creativity of the workers and makes it more appropriate in the local context.

Values, theories and methods in social work education: a culturally transferable core?

Article Abstract:

The disenchantment with formal social work as a strategy for social development in developing countries necessitates the creation of an international framework for social science. To achieve this goal, social workers should challenge the traditional approaches to social work education that heavily depend on consensus. In its place, alternatives such as team building, conflict resolution, networking and organizational development should be viewed as viable methods for teaching social policy development.
