Discriminatory marketing of racially mixed neighborhoods in Memphis

Article Abstract:

The print advertising practices of real estate companies make the racially mixed neighborhoods less accessible to the white homebuyers in Memphis. The advertising practices are analyzed in two neighborhoods with less than 5% and 30-49.9% black population. The areas with more black population have a 90% lower rate of ads, where the real estate company itself is advertised. The ads have fewer school notations and fewer favorable adjectives describing the area. Also, the ad rate is 73% lower for the photos of white agents.

A stock/flow model of defining racially integrated neighborhoods

Article Abstract:

Two aspects must be present to determine if a neighborhood is racially integrated. A neighborhood is considered integrated if no single ethnic group composes more than 75% of the neighborhood population. In addition, the ethnic composition of the neighborhood must maintain this percentage for 10 years.
