The dynamic simulation of control and compliance processes in material organizations

Article Abstract:

Previous research has shown the utility of computer simulation in analyzing unexpected outcomes of theories. However, many of these studies delved on theories in disciplines other than sociology. A model of Randall Collins' synthetic theory of organizational control is examined using computer simulation. Results indicate that the dynamic workings of sociological theories can be explained further by computer simulation.

Computer simulation for exploring theories: models of interpersonal cooperation and competition

Article Abstract:

Previous research has shown the potential of computer simulation to develop and explore theories. However, these studies have also brought to light the inadequacy of current simulation models in studying theories in social psychology. This problem can be remedied if computer simulations are shown to enlighten current theory and if simulation tied to substantive theory uses empirical data.

Simulation modeling and theoretical analysis in sociology

Article Abstract:

Sociologists, unlike other social scientists, sparingly use computer simulation experiments to confirm theories. This situation is deplorable, given the benefits simulation modeling can have on either theory or empirical analysis. When combined with mathematical and statistical modeling, simulation modeling allows sociologists to realize the full impact of theories on their discipline.
