Do as I say: parent smoking, antismoking socialization, and smoking onset among children

Article Abstract:

Early onset of smoking in children due to parental smoking models increases their risk for progressive experimentation and regular smoking during adolescence. Children who have never tried smoking, but whose parents are current smokers, are more susceptible to smoking. These children perceive easier access to cigarettes and are ambivalent towards smoking. Even after parents quit smoking, the effects of parent modeling persist. Antismoking socialization in parents results in lower rates of smoking onset in children, despite parents being current smokers.

Topography of sham and real puffing examined using a paced smoking regimen

Article Abstract:

Data from a previous study by Schupp, Mucha, and Pauli was used to compare paced, sham and real smoking at different rates of smoke deprivation. Intensity, maximum area and duration of puffs were found to be lower for sham compared to real puffing, although sham and real puffing exhibited parallel changes in response to deprivation, and there were significant positive correlations between the two puffing conditions for puff intensity, maximum and area.
