Does stage-of-change predict dropout in a culturally diverse sample of adolescents admitted to inpatient substance-abuse treatment? A test of the Transtheoritical Model

Article Abstract:

Data collected from a hospital-based, residential substance-abuse treatment program involving culturally diverse adolescents are studied to test the veracity of the Transtheoritical Model (TTM) which proposes that the stages-of-change serves as a useful tool to predict treatment dropout. Results demonstrate that the best predictive model of dropout includes only the Precontemplation stage, which manifests high rates of treatment attrition than those in contemplation or preparation stages.
