Article Abstract:

An examination of existing literature on psychoanalysis and social work would reveal that diversity has become popular in the two fields, mainly due to postmodernism's challenges to the idea of an established truth. Diversity also comes in the form of varied clients and the considerable adversity that these professions face, including the commercialization of physical and mental health and the current reforms in the welfare system. Since theoretical differences in social work and psychoanalysis have been around for a long time, suggesting the breadth of work in both disciplines, the key idea is for practitioners and theorists to exercise openness.

Article Abstract:

The widespread occurrence of social welfare concerns have caused social workers to feel threatened and helpless in the performance of their jobs. The fundamental values of social work, influenced by the former American First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, have been corrupted by the growing number of societal concerns which have affected the social workers' capability to perform their service. Social workers feel that they are incapacitated because they cannot solve all the problems.

Article Abstract:

The 100th anniversary of Columbia University's School of Social Work that was held in New York was highlighted with discussions and presentations of papers regarding the 1st century of social work as profession in North America. Most of the papers presented dealt with the strength and achievements rather than newness and immaturity of social workers. The celebration was attended by alumni from around the world, who discussed social work issues in their respective countries.
