Article Abstract:

Life skills programs effectively provide parents with the ability to guard against the risks their children encounter, such as illegal drugs. The Parenting for Drug-Free Children is one such program designed for parents from African American, Latino, Native American, and Samoan communities in urban setting. Its recruitment strategies were direct contact either by a person known to the parent or by referrals and indirect contact through brochures left at community centers. The incentives that were offered to encourage participation included transportation, refreshments and day care.
