Effects of reinforcement amount on attack induced under a fixed-interval schedule in pigeons

Article Abstract:

An experiment maintained key pecking by pigeons on a chained fixed-interval four-minute fixed-ratio schedule of food presentation. In the first experiment, where the amount of food per interval was manipulated by varying the number of fixed ratios needed in the terminal link of the chain, a monotonical increase in the measures of the pigeons' attack was observed during the fixed-interval component as a result of changes in food amount. In the second experiment, where different food amounts were alternated for each experimental session under a multiple schedule, there was higher measures of attack when the food amount was larger.

Most directed forgetting in pigeons can be attributed to the absence of reinforcement on forget trials during training or to other procedural artifacts

Article Abstract:

Experimental studies of forget-cue trials in pigeons confirm that performance losses on forget-cue probe trials can be accounted for by reinforced responding subsequent to forget cue. In the presence of reinforcement, the response pattern during and subsequent to a forget cue contributes to directed forgetting. Decreases in accuracy on these trials are observed upon omission of reinforcement.

Support for a theory of memory for event duration must distinguish between test-trial ambiguity and actual memory loss

Article Abstract:

Research on pigeons' suggest a relationship between response rates and length of event duration. An evaluation of Staddon and Higa's research on trace-strength theory, and issues of memory loss are presented.
