Electronic monitoring: philosophical, systemic, and political issues

Article Abstract:

Electronic monitoring of prisoners, designed in the mid-1980s to reduce jail populations, can improve when awareness about the versatility and utility of this method can be increased. Successful monitoring programs need continuing evaluation, and there is data to suggest this technique has more potential for rehabilitation than confinement in prison.

This article discusses the shortage of health care paraprofessionals. The author argues that low wages, lack of respect, lack of full-time work, and the demanding physical labor makes health care paraprofessional work undesirable, and policy changes need to be implemented to better these professions and make them more desirable.
