Entrepreneurial human capital accumulation and the growth of rural businesses: A four-country survey in mountainous and lagging areas of the European union

Article Abstract:

The processes of entrepreneurial human capital accumulation and its impact on rural business growth is presented where data are derived from four surveys on rural businesses in mountainous and less favored areas in Southern Europe. The results indicate the need for decentralized, flexible and selective entrepreneurial human capital accumulation support programmes that take into account local idiosyncrasies and needs.

Agri-environmental policy in Spain: the agenda of socio-political developments at the national, regional and local levels

Article Abstract:

An overview is presented on the incorporation of environmental concerns in Spain's agricultural policies, along with the origin of these concerns and the relative number of policies adopted that have been founded on them. Topics include responses by farmers and agricultural trade unions to such policies, implementation challenges, and factors influencing resistance to the policies.

Spanish forestry planning dilemmas: technocracy and participation

Article Abstract:

Research indicates that reforestation programs in Spain continue to be dominated by autocratic rather than participatory procedures. Suggestions include co-opting land owners and users into already completed plans, the addition of rural development to forestry plans, and the use of consultants in policy making.
