An empirical typology of subjects within stage of change

Article Abstract:

The contemplation, preparation and action stages in smoking cessation behavior can be subdivided into four distinct subtypes and precontemplation stage can be divided into 3 subtypes. A significant difference between subtypes can be seen in the five experiential processes in the precontemplation stage. In the contemplation stage five experiential and two behavioral processes show significant difference. All the five experiential and three behavioral processes show significant difference in precontemplation stage. In the action stage significant differences occurred in several behavioral processes.

A criterion measurement model for health behavior change

Article Abstract:

A new multivariate measurement model for evaluating criterion variables for health behavior change, improves on existing models and extends the concept of the transtheoretical model of self-change. The constructs of habit strength, and positive and negative evaluation strength follow four stages of change such as precontemplation, contemplation, action and maintenance. The stability of these stages can be predicted and several tests of the model provide support for its' efficacy. The model is applied to smoking cessation, but can be generally applicable to other problem behaviors.
