Factors associated with untreated remissions from alcohol abuse or dependence

Article Abstract:

Research among a sample of people who remitted from alcohol abuse or alcohol dependence, both with and without treatment, to abstinence or moderate drinking indicates that 50% of respondents who had recovered from an alcohol problem seemed to have done so without receiving formal assistance or treatment. Some 58% of these people appeared to be currently drinking in a moderate, controlled way. This finding supports the growing evidence that there are many pathways to recovery from alcohol problems and that many people overcome their problems without formal treatment.

Relapse revisited: a critique of current concepts and clinical practice in the management of alcohol problems

Article Abstract:

Relapse is not an addiction-specific event, but may probably be better understood as a generic human behavior that people undertake at times. Research efforts on the phenomenon of relapse are improperly focused, since a study of successes would prove to be more informative than a study of failures. An efficacious intervention for relapse has yet to be developed, although relapse prevention and management remain a part of alcohol interventions.

Brief interventions for risk consumption of alcohol at an emergency surgical ward

Article Abstract:

Research has been undertaken into whether extended alcohol counselling is more effective than just assessment with a brief feedback of risky alcohol consumption among surgical patients with risk consumption. It was found that there were no differences in effect between the interventions.
