Failure to diagnose depression in patients referred for psychotherapy

Article Abstract:

A study conducted on undiagnosed depression reveals a high level of missed diagnoses when patients are recommended for psychotherapy with other diagnoses. The stigma associated with mental illness is blamed for a number of these missed diagnoses, a situation that results in patients failing to report psychiatric symptoms to their doctors. Failure by General Practitioners to take the necessary case histories and the lack of knowledge regarding depression is also one of the major factors that contribute to missed diagnoses.

An ode to Fitz: a 19th-century poet was the original schmoozer

Article Abstract:

Halleck, the only American given a statue on Central Park's Literary Walk, was neither prolific nor much acclaimed as a poet. He achieved his standing from his association with other writers. He invented the blurb, the short quotable passage by which writers praise each other on book jackets.
