Passing it on: The reinforcement of male hegemony in sports journalism textbooks

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted to examine the status of women in eight sports journalism textbooks because sports media marginalized the women and women's sports and even college courses and textbooks have reinforced male hegemony. Results of the study indicate that the books do not encourage aspiring journalists to address gender inequities in sports journalism.

Flirting with suicide

Article Abstract:

Mark Ebenhoch is gay and HIV-negative, but continues to practice unsafe sex. AIDS awareness campaigns are not reaching people like him because they focus on abstinence and death and not on the roots of sex such as alcohol drinking and loneliness. Other public health campaigns have this problem.

Floyd Flake's middle America

Flake's ministry focuses on values common in black churches prior to the civil rights era. His parish includes the substantial African-American middle class of Queens, New York. Self-reliance, education and hard work are the core of his message and the lives of his parishioners.
