Family programming for incarcerated parents: a needs assessment among inmates

Article Abstract:

This article examines the perceived needs of inmates with children regarding programs and services that would help them fulfill their family responsibilities. Survey results indicate that incarcerated parents requested parenting education, better family visitation programs, and counseling on trust and communication issues.

Perceptions of the juvenile justice system among adult prison inmates

Article Abstract:

This study uses a comprehensive survey to examine adult inmates' opinions of the juvenile justice system. Findings indicate that most inmates in a midwestern state prison felt that the juvenile justice system did not help them improve their own lives but was effective in deterring delinquent behavior in other adolescents.

Prison nursery 2000: a five-year review of the prison nursery at the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women

Article Abstract:

This article evaluates two state-sponsored prison nursery programs for women inmates in Nebraska. The author, maintaining the program is highly praised by inmates, visitors, and the media, states that the results demonstrate a decrease in inmate misconduct and a reduction in recidivism.
