Hunting ruralities: nature, society, and culture in 'hunt countries' of England and Wales

Article Abstract:

The hunting positioned within a broader social science context of nature-society relations are discussed and the complex connections between hunting, nature, and reality is considered. Also the connections between hunting, nature and rural society are examined by drawing on key findings from a recent study of the social and cultural role of hunting in four areas of English and welsh countryside is described.

Interconnecting housing, homelessness and rurality: evidence from local authority homelessness officers in England and Wales

Article Abstract:

Research is presented on the rate of homelessness in rural areas of England and Wales, along with an analysis of its relative invisibility to the public eye as compared to its urban counterpart. Reasons include the socio-cultural assumptions of idyllic lifestyles connected with rural regions, which render homelessness inconsistent with such romanticized constructs.

'Inappropriate and incongruous': Opposition to asylum centers in the English countryside

Article Abstract:

The plans to accommodate asylum seekers in a number of rural locales have raised concern about the ability of the countryside to accommodate difference. These debates are explored by examining community opposition to the proposed development of asylum centers in Nottinghamshire and Oxfordshire.
