Institutions, social capital and agricultural change in central and Eastern Europe

Article Abstract:

The institutions and social capital that play an important role in agricultural success in Central and Eastern European Countries (CEECs) by using a data from a survey of agricultural stakeholders is demonstrated. The importance of agriculture in CEECs economies and the size of the agricultural subsidies in the EU are given but substantial improvements in economic institutions and social capital that is still required in most CEECs is concluded.

Accountability and rural development partnerships: a study of objective 5b EAGGF funding in South West England

Article Abstract:

Both accountability and thereby project responsibility and risk that could be more widely spread by creating opportunities for locally shaped, novel and flexible developments through networks is demonstrated. The tensions that can arise in a partnerships from existing accounting arrangements by a study of EAGGF component of an EU objective 5b program in South West of England is highlighted.

Fiscal conservatism versus local paternalism: Divergent experiences of public housing decline in rural areas of England during the 1980s

Article Abstract:

The differential response of two rural districts of England to changes in council house provisioning in the 1980s is examined. Further, the extent to which Stoker's categorization of policy-making behavior helps to understand the diversity of policy-making influences at work in rural areas is explored.
