Culture, conventions and colonial constructs of rurality in south-north horticultural trades

Article Abstract:

The comparative social history and convention theory is used to examine current transformation in the contemporary 'Anglophone' and 'Francophone' fresh vegetable trades between Africa and Europe. The comparative historical analysis of French and English conventions provides insight into the interplay between place, culture, and national and international political economies.

Differences in economic development in rural regions of advanced countries: an overview and critical analysis of theories

Article Abstract:

An overview and critical analysis of theories on economic development in rural regions in advanced countries is presented. The extent to which these theories contribute to explanations for the differential economic performance of rural regions in the European Union during the last two decades is also analyzed.

Measuring age differentials in representations of rurality in The Netherlands

Article Abstract:

The methodologies of classifying different representations and analyzing these in the framework of a multinomial logit regression model are proposed. The virtual-figurative images of the countryside are predominant in Netherlands.
