Intergenerational studies: a multi-disciplinary field

Article Abstract:

The field of intergenerational human services is assessed if it could qualify as an academic discipline and suggestions on how it may be assimilated into higher education are given. These professionals may find work as community center specialists, school teachers or coordinators of intergenerational programs. Students who plan to make intergenerational services a career must enrol in courses that train them to interact with young and old people. These studies must be flexible and give students the chance to design their own curricula that meet the needs of both age groups.
