International adoption: issues of acknowledgement of adoption and birth culture

Article Abstract:

Couples that have adopted children from other countries have to accept their role as adoptive parents and to integrate the culture of their child into the child's upbringing. The process of acknowledgement involves discussions of the adoption with the child and allowing the child an access to books or other material on its birth culture. Meanwhile, social workers are advised to consider issues such as the child's age, the demographic type of parents and parental responses in aiding adoptive parents.

Group issues and activities for female teen survivors of sexual abuse

Article Abstract:

Sexually abused teenagers may be aided by group therapy sessions where they would be most comfortable with the other participants. Thus, group facilitators should consider the importance of the group name, parent meetings, methods of self-disclosure, leadership selection and confidentiality. Most female survivors are also more comfortable with members of their own gender. A list of topics, activities and homework for group therapy sessions is provided.
