Intraclass correlation among measures related to tobacco use by adolescents: estimates, correlates, and applications in intervention studies

Article Abstract:

Community trial design in tobacco intervention studies must account for intact social group allocation for studying conditions and positive intraclass correlation. Estimates of intraclass correlation, such as rho and residual variance, are reduced through regression adjustment for covariates that are readily measured. This is useful for investigators planning future studies, as they can measure these covariates in their studies.

Correlated averages vs. averaged correlations: Demonstrating the warm glow heuristic beyond aggregation

Article Abstract:

Three studies were conducted to demonstrate the warm glow heuristic without relying on aggregated ratings, and illustrate the important distinction between correlating average ratings versus averaging individual correlations. The results of all three studies support the existence of the beautiful-is-familiar phenomenon.
