'It's a small world': mental health policy under welfare capitalism since 1945

Article Abstract:

An overview is presented on the downsizing of mental health care services as part of the general reduction of welfare regimes under capitalism since the end of World War II. Recommendations to counter the negative effects of downsizing, drawn from Italian and Swedish policy models, include a trend toward greater self-determination in health and critical assessment of treatment regimes.
