Leadership Status, Gender, Group Size, and Emotion in Face-to-Face Groups

Article Abstract:

An experiment on the emotional aspects of group work revealed that personal interactions gain more positive results from popular group leaders as compared to ordinary members. Gender-wise, the face-to-face group work seems to agree more with women members rather than male group members. A related finding showed that women leaders have a higher rating of pleasantness in terms of social skills over their male peers. However, in terms of group perception concerning competence, men leaders were given higher ratings than their female counterparts.

The significance of method

Article Abstract:

The field of sociology relies on experimental methods to guide research. The social research methods emphasize the importance of theory and metatheory in the driving the growth of sociological knowledge. Because sociology is a social science, it employs scientific methods to construct theories that would account for the social phenomena observed. These methods are different from those used in the natural sciences because they vary depending on the social conditions of the environment.

Conflict in networks

Article Abstract:

A modified definition of conflict relations as it applies to social networks was developed to further studies of the distribution of power on exchange networks. The conceptualization is similar to David Willers' elementary theory, but it acknowledges that protagonists may derive mutual benefit from confrontation. An experimental study was also conducted on the automatic and manual sanctioning protocols to provide a theoretical description of conflict relations.
