Regeneration of oligodendrocytes and myelin

Article Abstract:

Neurogeneticists exploring various techniques for the repair of myelin in people with central nervous system demyelinating disorders have begun focusing their research efforts on the usefulness of gene transfer. The trend can be attributed largely to the successful characterization of the molecular mechanisms governing demyelination, the identification and cloning of genes which cause leukodystrophies and the development of recombinant growth factors which affect the development of myelin-forming cells.

McKown v. Lundman

Article Abstract:

The courts have the right to intervene in the exercise of religious freedom where injury to a minor is foreseeable. The Supreme Court awarded damages to a father whose minor son died because of the insistence of his mother and stepfather, both Christian Scientists, to cure him with prayers rather than medical care. Stephen Carter's suggestion that parents be required to notify authorities when treating sick children through prayers is misguided.
