Migration and European nationalism: France, Germany and the United Kingdom

Article Abstract:

Nationalism can either be divisive or unifying. In the case of Europe, fervent nationalism may soon incite widespread chaos in France, Germany and the UK. The growin g xenophobia in France has forwarded the cause of the anti-immigrant National Front Party. In Germany, refugees have been constant targets of violent attacks. Blacks and Asians are not spared from racist brutality in the UK. Elsewhere in Europe, intolerance to people of different ethnic and cultural origins has created tensions in the continent. While free trade is promoted in the area, migration is rejected outrightly.

Should public health records of illegal immigrants with communicable diseases be protected by confidentiality?

Article Abstract:

There is an ethical conflict for health professionals to reveal the health status of a patient to other people. Requiring physicians and nurses to report immigrants with communicable diseases to state authorities violates the confidentiality of the physician-patient relationship. On the other hand, illegal immigrants with communicable diseases places the entire country at risk and medical professionals may be called upon to assist the government in preventing catastrophic disease outbreaks.

Immigration as an election ploy

Article Abstract:

Immigration is emerging as an important election vehicle among politicians in the US. Specifically, politicians are maneuvering to capture the sympathy of voters by publicly supporting or opposing issues such as legal immigration, the US identification card system or the database of legal workers, the national version of California's Proposition 187 and the proposal to make English the official language of the US.
