Nationalism, immigration and ethnic conflict

Article Abstract:

Ethnic strifes are inevitable outcomes of the post-Cold War era. The Balkans, Somalia, South Africa, India, Sri Lanka, the Middle East, Central Asia and the Pyrenees have been mired in anarchy eversince the former superpowers severed their ties from these countries. The never-ending quest for nationalism has already claimed thousands of innocent lives. In the US, racial prejudice still lingers although not as intense as in war-torn Yugoslavia. Whereas massive migration has provoked bigotry in the US, the search for a national identity has brough about the civil war in Yugoslavia.

Immigration and integration: a tale of bashing and neglect

Article Abstract:

The economic impact that immigrants have on the US and their integration into society are analyzed. Immigrants contribute their share to the economy by paying taxes, by taking low-wage jobs that support local industries, and by setting up businesses in formerly abandoned city areas. However, the tax monies these immigrants pay do not always go into the communities wherein they reside. Although immigrants are blamed for placing a strain on state and national budgets, shortsighted planning and policy making that are actually responsible.

Immigrants benefit the economy

Article Abstract:

A report from the National Academy of Sciences revealed that immigration has benefited the US economy as a whole. Immigrants have added $10 billion to the national economic output annually. However, some states and cities with a larger immigrant population pay higher taxes and low-paid native workers in some areas are negatively affected. The report is commissioned by the Commission on Immigration Reform.
