The article presents the 1997 awards given by the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials to 18 agencies, recognizing them for the quality of their programs and their positive impact. Awards were given for project design, administrative innovation, economic impact and direct client/resident services.

NAHRO Awards of Excellence

Article Abstract:

The housing projects and local housing authorities that were presented the 1998 Awards of Excellence by the National Assn of Housing and Redevelopment Officials are profiled. The winners in the Project Design: New Project category were the Casa San Juan Apartments by the City of Oxnard, CA, Housing Authority and the Walnut Park Town Homes in Portland, OR, by the Northeast Community Development Corp. The winners in the Program Innovation: Affordable Housing category included the Positano Apartments by the Housing Authority of the County of Santa Barbara (Lompoc, CA) and the Parsonage Cottage Home for the Aged by the Housing Authority of the Town of Greenwich, CT. In the Program Innovation: Community Revitalization category, the awardees were the 'From Destitute to Tribute' program by the Housing Authority of the City of Spartanburg, SC, and the Hotel Stilwell Preservation project by the Senior Housing Community Development and Housing (Pittsburg, KS).
