Neighborhood Networks: Good for residents and a good investment

Article Abstract:

Neighborhood Networks Initiative, started by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) in 1995, was one of the first federal initiatives to improve technology access and promote self-sufficiency for residents living in low- and moderate-income communities. The presence of Internet-enabled computer facilities within affordable housing developments broadens access to employment and educational opportunities, strengthening communities.

Article Abstract:

A description is presented of the US Dept of Housing and Urban Development web site, which provides information on its Comprehensive Grant Submissions program and offers samples of public housing leases that meet requirements of the 1996 Housing Opportunity Program Extension Act. The site also provides information on other matters of community development.

Safe keeping: HUD's relocation and re-occupancy guidelines

Article Abstract:

An evaluation of the HUD Lead Hazard Control (LHC) program examined 819 households (71%) relocated during the studied lead hazard control work. Programs should share strategies that help families understand LHC work.
