New standards for seafarers

Article Abstract:

Six conventions and recommendations including a protocol were adopted during the 84th Maritime Session of the International Labour Conference (ILO) which was held in Geneva from Oct 8-22, 1996. The conventions and recommendations deal on the revision of seafarers' wages, hours of works, manning of ships, recruitment and placement. Furthermore, the protocol allows the states to accept new obligations for the benefits of seafarers.

Wessex best in the west

Article Abstract:

Following assessment by the National Approval Council for Security Systems (NACOSS), Wessex Alarms of Shaftesbury was awarded the quality assurance certification BS 5750 for its intruder alarms. The certification is part of the company's moves towards Total Quality Management (TQM).

Pinot envy in Marlborough

The Marlborough region of New Zealand grows the best grapes for the country's wine. The area has several prominent wineries that have produced award-winning wines. The region's wine-making history dates back to 1973, when the first grapes were planted. Several winemakers are listed.
