Political exceptionalism in Sunbelt cities

Article Abstract:

Analysis of previous research clearly indicate that Sunbelt states were never uniformly successful in their politics or economic policies and these themes are overstated. And neither are the Snowbelt states as uniformly depressed as suggested. Comparative studies of Sunbelt cities, and between Sunbelt and Snowbelt cities are needed to understand the insights of regime analysis which will further lead to comparative analysis of such important phenomena as racial patterns, political coalition, leadership, development policy and institutional structures.

Moderate rent control: sixty cities over 20 years

Article Abstract:

Rent control legislation can be classified as restrictive, moderate and strong. The restrictive system, which was characteristic of NY rental markets, generated disinvestment problems and were not typical of housing regulations since 1966. The moderate rent control program balances tenant and landlord interests. A study of moderate system's application in 60 New Jersey cities showed that the program had minimal impact on rental housing quality and quantity.

How the past matters: North American cities in the twentieth century

Article Abstract:

The importance of the past's impact on the present affects judgments people make. A study of the past will be instrumental in broadening the terms of such contemporary debates. The 20th-century North American city is a subject that clearly typifies this theme. Scholars have allowed current concerns to shape our conception of cities.
