Political power and curbing the growth in U.S. government spending

Article Abstract:

The US political structure requires remodelling to alleviate the crises in federal spending and taxing. The federal government allocates funds to states for projects which are often wasteful and of no great national concern. The states also spend a major part of their budget on efforts to get federal agencies to increase their budgetary allocations. The cost incurred in government benefits are extracted from the public by the politicians. Federal taxing and spending can be reduced by having politicians bear the cost of their decisions and a constitutional amendment is required to that effect.

Tackling juvenile crime

Article Abstract:

Access to the juvenile crime records, harsh punishment, uniform sentencing rules can deter repeat juvenile offenders. An effective strategy to decrease juvenile cases is waiving the jurisdiction of juvenile courts, since most juvenile crimes are committed by chronic offenders. Drugs, drug money, gang related incidents and the easy availability of guns are contributing to juvenile crime. Issues, such as education and family values, also need to be addressed to reduce this social problem.

Union myopia and the taxation of capital

Article Abstract:

A government which grants privileges to the minority of workers who belong to unions is, in effect, imposing a form of capital tax. In contrast to private firms where the incentive structure is based on actual performance, the union incentive structure actually encourages myopic decisions. By giving union leaders ever-greater control over decisions relevant to capital investment, the government has reduced the competitiveness of major US industries.
