Power and the suppression of unwanted thoughts: Does control over others decrease control over the self?

Article Abstract:

The effects of social power on thought suppression and the magnitude of post-suppressional rebound are studied. Powerful participants showed stronger post-suppressional rebound as compared to the less powerful ones and attempts to suppress stereotypes backfired with their emerging more vigorous after suppression.

Power affects basic cognition: increased attentional inhibition and flexibility

Article Abstract:

The way in which power affects an individual's mind to focus on central information and control peripheral information is examined. It is found that powerful individuals are less distractible than the powerless individuals.

The semantic/episodic distinction: the case for social information processing

Article Abstract:

The utilization of information in constituting an impression involves the semantic and episodic memory systems. The episodic processing accounts for an incongruent behavior.
